Underpowered brakes lead to defensive riding technique and, ultimately, to slower lap times. Enter the new XTR Race brake, which encourages racers to attack technical downhill sections with confidence, leaving the competition squealing and squawking in the dust
Overview
Technology
.
With 10% more power than the previous XTR brake, the sleek new XTR Race lever has been ergonomically redesigned for a versatile fit on the handlebars, superior feel at the fingertips and unsurpassed function on the race course. Combine this with the new forged one-piece M985 caliper it delivers a balance of light weight and power that resists performance-sapping heat better than ever before thanks to an industry-first full-ceramic piston Ice Technology radiator brake pads.
LEVER: Shorter, 13-millimeter brake lever with more efficient pivot location
CALIPER One piece forged post mount calliper with oversized ceramic piston (Resin pad compound with alloy backing plate (standard))
HOSE High-power hose for uncompromising performance
ROTOR: Not included
ADJUSTMENT: Reach adjust
EXTRA FEATURES: Combine with i-spec lever bracket to reduce handlebar clutter
The fade which can occur to rotor and pad when braking on a long downhill ride for instance, has a negative impact on the braking performance.
Therefore Shimano has adopted the Ice-Tec Rotor and Ice-Tec Pad to realize the cooling technology for consistent performance. The clad rotor blade has a 3 layer-sandwich structure of stainless steel, aluminium and stainless steel thus providing better radiation performance achieved from 400 deg. C to 300 deg. C surface temperature.
Also the radiation fin has been adopted for the pad. Therefore combining the clad rotor clad and the radiator fin it provides longer pad life, less noise, less fade and lighter weight braking system.
