About the Shop
Mountain Trax started as a small part-time mail order venture back in 1995. It was such a success that we soon ran out of space and needed a unit to house our large stocks of high quality parts and accessories. In our quest for more room we came across space within a garden centre, which would offer us the chance to open a large retail outlet with ample parking and off-road test ride facilities nearby. So in March 1996 the shop opened within the Wyevale Garden Centre. Again filling a gap in the market at that time, to provide a high level of service, with professional staff and huge stock levels of the high quality products usually only seen in the magazines. We wanted to get away from the cliquey high-end bike shops, which ordinary customers found intimidating, whilst also providing for the women's mountain bike market at a similar level. We continue to specialize in the downhill market, and more recently trials, jump and dual slalom.
Fast forward to March 2005 when Chris White, having worked there for 7 years already, bought the shop resulting in a store that has continued to do all that it set out to and more. It is constantly evolving and innovating, aiming to totally satisfy customer needs. Advertising nationally we can also supply products UK wide. The specialist workshop with two full time mechanics provides an exceptional standard of repairs and custom buildups.
In June 2007 we moved into our own premises on a small industrial estate in Barkham, dead opposite the Antiques Centre on Barkham Street. Offering more showroom space, a bigger workshop and dedicated parking. The shop is only a six mile ride from Swinley Forest.
We are keen to reinvest in the sport so sponsor our own Race Team, we also sponsor the local Gorrick race series and TrailTrax Navigation events, and support local bike clubs such as Berks On Bikes. You can also buy your Swinley Forest Cycling annual permit through us.
Our aim is to constantly change with the times, whilst maintaining our status as a high quality store that puts customer service first. We plan to continually keep a check on the quality of our service, keep a good stock control, maintain the quality of the product we sell and offer more demo bikes to customers. We can assure customers that visiting our store will be an enjoyable experience and if nothing else, you can at least get a cup of tea or coffee!
How to find us... click here for a MultiMap or put RG40 4PJ into your satnav. Proceding along Barkham Street when you see the signs for Barkham Antiques Centre look for the entrance to Barkham Grange which is almost dead opposite. It can be quite hard to see especially in the dark, look for the orange Mountain Trax sign on the fence.
