I have a short riding history as I've not long come to the sport. My first mountain bike ride was July 2004, it was hard but fun and remained as an occassional hobby. I got my first bike, the Marin, in Spring 2005 and made up a team for Sleepless in the Saddle. This progressed to training for Dusk Til Dawn 2005 when a close friend suggested I try riding it solo. I really enjoyed the ride and the challenge, and bit the bullet to enter the big 24 hour events as a soloist. I had no idea of what to expect but was fortunate enough to know people who did and they helped me hugely with training and advice for the big day. So after a cold winter's training the 24's swung round and I did rather well.
I do have a strong background in fitness though not at a competitve level. Spending my time mainly running, with the usual aerobic classes and swimming. Though I'm sure 9 1/2 years in the Army has helped with the mental approach and discipline required to just keep going at endurance events.
